Silk Sampler Center Panel Complete

I learned a lot from the pattern sampler. Taking notes and adjusting the extra large lace pattern has made this process invaluable. I’ve found it is important to work the patterns I design, because I don’t always like the final look of some of the stitches together. This gives an opportunity to adjust everything before making the final piece.

As you’ve seen in previous posts, the finishing of lace is a problem for me. Thankfully, the simple plaited edge and magic threads made the end mostly seamless. The colorful threads are magic threads. They are laid in along the final stitches, so you can pull the ends through the lace, once it is finished. When done correctly, the bottom edge should look smooth and reflect the same type of stitch as the top edge.

A big problem I found was the sagging that happened when the lace came off the pillow. It is not as noticeable when the center panel is alone, but placed next to the outside pattern, you can see it doesn’t match up. The piece will either need to be remade or re-pinned, so I can starch the lace. The silk just needs a little assistance holding its shape.
