Every few years the Rocky Mountain Lace Guild has a “randomly repeating retreat.” We’ve had our gathering in different places around Colorado, but chose Granby, CO for the last two. It is quite a drive from Denver, but well worth the beautiful scenery!

We stay in lovely cabins that hold a multitude of people. While the town is breathtaking, we normally stay in the large living area of the cabin and make lace. Sometimes we have group activities like crafting spacer pins, dyeing thread, or analyzing thrifted lace. Mostly, we work on our own projects, talk, and laugh.

I brought my current work in progress, the needle lace heart. As I mentioned before, all the separate parts are finished, so I need to connect everything. The red marks that look like confetti are anchor points. I tacked on red thread throughout the piece, which will be used for the vein-like twisting connections. The red thread will eventually be pulled out, only leaving the large piece made in white thread.

The retreats are magical in so many ways! It is a time to relax, enjoy making lace, and reconnect with each other. During this visit, we were lucky enough to see a double rainbow. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend!
