I met a wonderful lady at the IOLI Convention in Mesa, Arizona. Cathy Kozlowski and I were in the same Binche bobbin lace class. We also had breakfast together many mornings. She told me stories about her childhood and love of lace making. I really enjoyed getting to know her. Soon after the convention, I received an email from a lace maker, informing me that Cathy passed. I am incredibly thankful I met her and got to spend the time we had together.

After a time, IOLI sent out an email about an auction containing lace making supplies and all manner of dolls. I did not realize Cathy had also been a doll collector. I ultimately purchased three sets of bobbins. The animal and insect bobbins were made by Elf Maiden. I took a bobbin painting class from Vellancy Fisher (Elf Maiden) at the IOLI Utah Convention in 2013, so I recognized them immediately.

The hand painted herb bobbins were made by The Bobbin Shop. I am familiar with Chris Parson’s bobbins, so I could also identify these. Once I got the bobbins, I sent him a picture of them. He confirmed they were from the collection of painted bobbins of herbs. They were hand painted by Sue Edmond onto Ebony bobbins.
