XL Bobbin Lace 2

Looking back at my previous posts about the grocery bag lace, I don’t think I talked about the goal. I mentioned I wanted this piece to live in a park. Imaginative and unexpected public art has always fascinated me. There are amazing murals all around Denver, and more seem to pop-up each day. When it was revealed to me that this idea could be brought to the realm of lace, my need to make something was overwhelming.

Lindy de Wijn (Australia) is part of The Adventurous Lacemakers group, so I got an opportunity to see a presentation on some of her outdoor installations. Some of these were planned/commissioned, but others were little lace secrets, hidden around the town where she lives. This concept appealed to me, so I designed this project with a random outdoor installation in mind. The plastic grocery bags help with the longevity of the piece, although who knows how long it would be in the park before someone took it down.
