During one of my presentations for The Adventurous Lacemakers group, I was asked to write up a pattern for the IOLI Bulletin of the interwoven tatting pattern I created. While I was hesitant at first, since I’ve never published a pattern before, I decided to take on the task.
It all started with the center motif. I found a picture of an interwoven tatted piece on Pinterest. No matter how hard I tried, I could not find the pattern for it. From the picture, I figured out how it was done. I altered the center and continued to build around it, creating my own take on the intriguing and inspiring tatting.
Taking it a step further, I wanted a larger piece with another interwoven round. Using the same altered center, I designed more frilly rounds that ended in a series of interwoven chains. I am lucky enough to know other amazing tatters, so I sent the pattern to some Rocky Mountain Lace Guild members for testing (thank you Laurie, Sandy, and Darla). From their feedback, the pattern was refined and sent off to the bulletin.
